Rifts Ultimate Edit

Rifts – Ultimate Edition

Wow is all I can say, what a great revised edition of the game. That REALLY needed a revision! The color plates are just awesome, and look as if they were taken from the CCG that did not do very well as far as I know.

The book is hardback and well laid out although I am a bit miffed that they did not include a character sheet because if there was every a game that needed a good character sheet this is the game. Supposedly there will be a new sheet in the next new source book for Rifts Ultimate Edition so we will just have to wait and see. I so hope so.

Again if you are a fan of Rifts or just like nice high quality game books then I must recommend Rifts UE. And to all of you out there that think Rifts is a crazy game and too big, I say think of this as the GM chose the sourcebooks you want to run from and limit the players choices and I think you will have a great game.

Game on!

Being a parent!

Being a parent or ARGH!!

Ok so I am at work when my cell rings…”hello, oh hello Mrs. Shaw yes I am fine…oh Jonathan had a fit in class and was bad oh and he flipped his chair as well! Oh ok I will see you Friday morning, yes sure no problem see you then!”

Well I guess you can see where this is going! I picked him up from school and he immediately tells me he had to turn his card twice! (btw turning the card is how they the school handle behavioral issues you start off Green and go to orange, then  yellow and lastly Red). Of course daddy already knew this, but I was glad that he stepped up and was honest as I acted like I knew nothing as I was picking him up! So he told me his side of the story, which again I was glad he told the truth as it jived with what his teacher told me 2 hours earlier.

So I get him home to face mother! (again btw, I called her and gave her the scoop just after the teacher called me!) So in the 3 hours before I got home with my lil’ delinquent the wife had cleaned out his room! I mean not even a shadow of a toy was left in his room! And if you know my son he has some awesome uncles! Nonetheless a lot of toys, well not any more, they are gone till further notice!

We of course sat him down and talked with him for well over a hour, explaining to him what was wrong and how disappointed we were in him and how much he hurt mommy and daddy by being bad in school. So after a hour or so we feel like good parents we have discussed with our son the proper way to behave and act in class and that he can not always be the center of attention in a class of 25 kids. We feel good right…wrong! I wake this morning and am getting him ready for school and he ask if he is still punished! I say YES! Of course and what does he do…throws down his backpack and says in a obnoxious voice AW CRAP! And stomps off to his room to get something.

Well that is when daddy loses his proverbial mind and snaps! I snatch him up and put him over my knee and give him 2 good whacks on the bottom. He is shocked more than hurt (I don’t believe in hitting my son but time outs have proven not to work with him!) and I send him to his room till I am ready to go! Crying of course and I am sure a little stunned no the less I then go in his room and ask him if he knows why he got smacked on the bottom? He looks at me with that “ geez dad are you dumb look!” and says, “Yes sir I was not listening and was rude to you.” I said yes and what else? He goes well you and mommy just talked to me last night about being good and doing what I am told and not talking back!

Ok so now as a dad I am confused! He got the message of not having a  “tude” with me and mother and showing respect to the teachers at school and how to act, so where did this morning come from? Hmmm, not sure I think part of it is the television and some of the video games he plays although the wife will not let him watch Mercenaries on the XBOX when I play and I agree it is to violent, so where is this attitude coming from? I think it is the other kids at school? Since I know some of then get no proper (at least in my opinion) parental supervision.

Oh well I will have to wait and see what the teacher says today. Hopefully this is just a phase and he will grow out of it…. at least I hope so!

Ah parenting the greatest joy! What challenges will be throw at the Polack family next, tune in next time to see!

Work blues

Work blues!

So here I am sitting at my desk with nothing to due and it got me thinking. In the IT world and I am sure it is in yours to, we complain when it is busy and also when it is slow! Funny that I thought. I mean I cant remember going to work and having a ok day where there was a little work and some down time to do the little things we all like to do like take a look at the news paper or check some non-work related e-mail. Course if you don’t get that small amount of time to do those things…then Whoa nelly! Super busy did not even have time to get lunch! Even though you had lunch it just seemed busy! See it’s this thing called “work” we need it to pay bills and get the things we want. So we have to work but we don’t want to work! Funny huh.

Well sorry just rambling on a small observation that I was thinking about while sitting at my desk doing nothing! Huh wait just got a e-mail, whoa day is sooooo busy! Gotta go!
